8-Days Lemosho Route Trek
$1,863.00
8-Days Lemosho Route Trek on Mount Kilimanjaro, well-thought-out by several to be the best-looking route up the western opening of the mountain to the Shira Plateau. The route is among the few ways where an armed ranger may escort the group because there are still animals in the woodland around the Lemosho Openings. The minimum number of days necessary for this path is six days, despite the fact that eight days is perfect.
Description
8-Day Lemosho Route Trek
Day 1: Londorossi Park Gate–Mti Mkubwa Camp
Altitude (meters): 2,250m to 2,821m
Distance: 6 km
Trekking Time: 3-4 hrs
We will transfer you to the Londorossi Park Entrance for registration formalities before proceeding to the Lemosho trailhead. After lunch, start your hike along the woodland traces to the Mti Mkubwa (Big Tree) campsite. This day, we will spend the night at Mti Mkubwa Camp.
Day 2: Mti Mkubwa Camp—Shira 1 Camp
Altitude (meters): 2,821 m to 3,500 m
Distance: 8 km
Trekking Time: 5-6 hrs
We wake up early in the morning and hike sharply out of the montane woodland region and into the heath region. The walk is challenging as we will ascend through the Shira Ridge (3600 m) and then gently descend to the Shira Plateau, where we will spend the night at the Shira 1 camp. On a strong day, the sight of Kibo crossing the plateau is truly magnificent.
Day 3: Shira 1 Camp – Shira 2 Camp
Altitude (meters): 3500m to 3840m
Distance: 10 km
Trekking Time: 3-4 hrs
Step by step, make your way across the plateau to reach the Shira 2 camp, situated on moor meadows by a watercourse. This is an ideal day to further explore the Shira plateau. Gaze to the west at sunset, and you may catch a sight of the twin outbreaks from the craters of Ol Doinyo Lengai, an active volcano 100 kilometers away.
Day 4: Shira 2 Camp to Lava Tower to Barranco Camp
Altitude (meters): 3840m to 4630m to 3950m
Distance: 10 km
Trekking Time: 6-8 hrs
After enjoying a vigorous and delicious breakfast, we walk eastward on the Shira plateau for several hours until we reach the intersection leading to the Machame Way. Then, we continue our journey through the barren landscape for a further half hour before stopping for lunch. Soon after having lunch, we will proceed east toward the Lava Tower, the highest point of the day (4630 m). Incline for 2 hours beneath the lower faces of the Western Opening and Breach Wall to Barranco Camp. Several senecio and lobelia plants surround the campsite, contributing to its exceptional nature.
Day 5: Barranco Camp to Karanga Camp
Altitude: 13,044 ft to 13,106 ft
Distance: 5 km
Trekking Time: 4-5 hours
Habitation: Alpine Desert
After having a scrumptious early morning breakfast, it is now time to master the Great Barranco Wall! Although it may seem daunting at first, climbers often report that this Class 2 trek is much easier than they initially anticipated. We will view the Heim Glacier at the peak of the Wall, elevated above the hazes. The track then goes up and down in the Karanga Valley. This is a perfect climbing day for adaptation.
Day 6: Karanga Camp to Barafu Camp
Altitude: 13,106 feet to 15,331 feet
Distance: 4 km
Trekking Time: 4-5 hours
Habitation: Alpine Desert
Having eaten breakfast, we will move from Karanga Camp (3959 m). The route intersects with the Mweka Way, serving as the path for the final two days. After ascending for an hour, we will reach Barafu Hut. This serves as the porters’ final water point, as Barafu Camp (4550 m) lacks nearby water sources. The Swahili word “barafu” translates to “ice,” and the camp is located on a stony, open ridge. Climbers should familiarize themselves with the campsite before dark, given the tents’ exposure to wind and pillars. We’ll have an early dinner today so climbers can rest before the midnight summit attempt. Our guide will explain how to prepare for summit night.
Day 7: Barafu Camp to Uhuru Peak to Mweka Camp
Altitude: 15,331 feet to 19,341 feet
Distance: 5 km
Trekking Time: 7-8 hours
Habitation: Arctic
Uhuru Peak to Mweka Camp
Altitude: 19,341 feet to 10,065 feet
Distance: 12 km
Trekking Time: 4-6 hours
Habitation: Rain Forest
This night our guide will wake up about 23:30 for tea and snacks. After that, we will start your Roof of Africa summit attempt. The way leads northwest, and you will climb through the stone screen. Several climbers perceive the duration of the slope as the most mentally and physically challenging part of the hike. In around 6 hours, you will arrive at Stella Point (5685 m), situated on the crater edge. After witnessing the breathtaking sunrise, you will trek for approximately two hours on a snow-covered path to reach Uhuru Summit (5895 m). Conquering the roof of Africa and the summit of Mt. Kilimanjaro is a lifetime achievement! You will have the opportunity to spend a brief period at the peak, taking pictures and enjoying tea, before descending to Barafu. After descending to Barafu, you will have a chance to rest and refuel before continuing your journey down to Mweka Camp. The trek down will take approximately five to six hours, allowing you to reflect on your incredible achievement and soak in the stunning landscapes one last time.
After arriving at the camp, you will unwind and enjoy a hot lunch under the sun. After eating, you will proceed downhill to Mweka Hut (3100 m).
Day 8: Mweka Camp to Mweka Gate
Altitude: 10,065 feet to 5,380 feet
Distance: 10 km
Trekking Time: 3-4 hours

After a well-earned breakfast, you and our staff will have a big gala full of dancing and singing. Right here on the mountain, you will be tipping your guide, assistant guides, chef(s), and porters. After celebrating, you will slope for 3 hours back to Mweka Entrance.
